Shrimp Scampi
Feat: Shrimp Scampi
Location: Grand Lux Cafe
Address: 630 Old Country Road
Garden City, NY 11530
AMBIANCE:
Upon walking into the main dining room at Grand Lux, it is reminiscent of walking into a bustling dining hall. High ceilings with floor to ceiling windows letting in plenty of natural light, and subtle warm-toned hues that are comforting and not overtly distracting. The booths are well-sized, providing plenty of comfort. The noise-level is moderate, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place if you're in the mood for an intimate dinner. It can get loud, especially on busier nights and weekends. It is, however, in a nutshell, casual dining done right.
SERVICE:
I've dined at Grand Lux several times, and can honestly say I've never had a bad waiter. They're all very pleasant, and almost always have a smile on their faces. Occasionally, you will come across a few minor hiccups (forgetting the bread, taking ever-so-slightly too long to take an order, etc.), but overall, they do their jobs well. It can get very busy, especially on the weekends, so it can sometimes be semi-difficult to wave down a waiter if you need something, but ultimately completely understandable considering the sheer amount of people that can dine there at one time. That being said, you might want to consider dining someplace else if you know yourself to be an impatient person, or in the very least, avoid coming here during their busier times.
FOOD:
I kid you not, there is something for EVERYONE. Even the pickiest of eaters can find something to eat here. Their menu is several pages long, and while it is marketed as an "American" restaurant, they succeed at incorporating cultural twists on American classics (Asian Nachos, anyone??). And I can't forget to mention their FULL bar. Perfect for BRUNCH! (Note: They do not do Bottomless Boozy Brunches. Do not come here if that's what you're looking for.) Additionally, they have an awesome dessert menu (because who doesn't leave room for dessert??). Just make sure you take a quick gander at the dessert menu at the beginning of your meal. Some desserts are baked-to-order (Doesn't get fresher than that...), and the order will need to be placed with the rest of your order in the beginning. No worries if you forget though. The nice waiters I mentioned above will be sure to mention it.
